Book Summary

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks is a classic romantic novel, about two total opposites coming together, and falling in love. One of the main characters is Landon Carter, who is one of Beaufort High’s most popular students. He is known and loved by everyone. On the other hand, there is the second main character, Jamie Sullivan who is the school nerd, the one who eats alone at lunch, and no one really knows of. As one can see, these two teens we’re not really meant for each other. Landon is one who dated a few girls, but it didn’t really mean much to him. The last thing he could imagine doing was dating a girl like Jamie Sullivan. Over the course of the novel, Jamie and Landon unexpectedly start dating, start hanging out all the time, and start to do everything together. Eventually Landon realizes that he may be in love Jamie. The unexpected had occurred. The one girl that he could never see himself being with was now his lover. Further into the book Jamie starts to become very sick. She tells Landon that she doesn’t want him to see her anymore because she doesn’t want him to see her the way she is, and she no longer thinks that they should be together since she knows she is going to pass away. Landon ignores everything that Jamie has to say, and tells her that no matter what she looks like, or how sick she is he will always love her. At the end of the novel, Landon knows that Jamie’s dream was to get married before she died and so Landon made that happened. He proposed to her, and they got married even though she had to make her way down the aisle in a wheelchair. A few days after this occurrence, Jamie passed away. The tragedy left Landon in a very sad state of mind, but from Jamie he learned that he really didn’t have to be like everyone else, and he could be with whoever he wants to be with, and if even if that does mean falling in love with someone so be it.
